The Moore Family has been supporting JDRF since 2015, when their daughter, Josie, was diagnosed with type one diabetes at the age of 7. With very little knowledge of this newly acquired autoimmune disease, they were given a JDRF Bag of Hope in the hospital the morning after Josie was diagnosed. In the bag was Rufus, the bear, who helped Josie through many difficult days after her diagnosis. After practicing with Rufus, Josie was able to teach herself to give her own shots just days after she got home from the hospital.
Just one week after they returned home from the hospital, an Outreach Volunteer from the local JDRF Chapter contacted Josie’s mom, Lisa. They chatted for a long time and a special bond was formed. Josie was then invited to a local bowling night a few weeks later. Josie made so many great friends that night and Josie and the Moore Family benefitted first- hand from the support and encouragement of local JDRF families. They also learned about their JDRF Jacksonville One Walk and their team raised over $4,000 the first year! Since then, the Moore Family is committed to support JDRF funding of research.
The Moore Family is thrilled to be this year’s Fund A Cure Family for our JDRF Party with a Purpose- A Night Under the Stars. Through our special Fund A Cure portion of our program, 100% tax-deductible contributions will drive research toward therapies and other critical JDRF research priorities. The funding need for T1D research has never been greater than it is today. Even as we navigate the changing landscape of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for research is needed now more than ever. As the rate of T1D continues to increase, so too does the urgency for our mission. Please consider giving a Fund A Cure gift today and join the Moore Family on November 4, 2021 to celebrate our resilient T1D community at this Party with a Purpose.
